Cáncer oral
Los datos anunciados anteriormente corresponden a la Encuesta Europea de la Salud Oral realizada por el INE en 2020. En ese mismo año, 60.000 personas fallecieron en España a causa del tabaco. Podemos decir con rotundidad que el tabaquismo es el principal factor de riesgo del cáncer oral. El 90% de los casos tienen relación con este hábito, que también está presente en 8 de cada 10 casos de cáncer de laringe y pulmón.
Estética
Nuestra sonrisa también sufre las consecuencias del tabaco. A nivel visual una de las más evidentes son las manchas en los dientes provocadas por la nicotina, el alquitrán y sus aditivos. Pero las tinciones no son el único problema que van a experimentar los fumadores. La alteración en la producción de saliva es habitual; y su disminución favorece la mineralización de la placa bacteriana y la aparición de sarro. Además, el tabaco incrementa el riesgo de fracaso o rechazo a los implantes dentales.
Pérdida de seguridad y confianza
Las consecuencias estéticas provocadas por el tabaco pueden derivar en una pérdida de seguridad y confianza. Son las consecuencias de no sentirnos cómodos con nuestra imagen. Esta inseguridad también puede originarse con otro trastorno asociado al tabaco: halitosis. Las sustancias nocivas presentes en los cigarros alteran la flora bacteriana oral y predisponen al fumador a padecer infección por hongos.
